Challenge Aspen is dedicated to impacting lives by providing meaningful recreational, educational, and cultural experiences to individuals faced with cognitive or physical disabilities, while encouraging friends and family to participate those experiences.
Challenge Aspen also offers year-round summer programs, including a variety of camps for children, teens and adults. (Adult programs are also offered through our C.A.M.O. division.) Rocky Mountain summers are spectacular and when the snow and ice begin to melt, Challenge Aspen pulls out the summer gear to offer everything from award-winning gold medal rivers for fly fishing and rafting to horseback riding, hiking, and climbing.
We have created summer camps both for the music, art and dance enthusiast as well as the outdoor adventurer in your family. Weeklong kids’ camps provide the perfect setting, a knowledgeable staff and a safe, natural community where children are free to create memories of their own to share with their families at the end of a beautiful Colorado day.
Challenge Aspen Military Opportunities
C.A.M.O. provides recreational and cultural experiences for wounded warriors with cognitive or physical disabilities. We encourage family and friends to share in these experiences. Wounded warriors are able to realize their life potential, bridging the gap between injuries and moving forward with life’s challenges despite adversity. The number of newly injured soldiers and need unfortunately continues to grow exponentially. C.A.M.O. has become the largest community based recreation program for military and their families in the United States.
C.A.M.O. is dedicated specifically to our veterans, who face a multitude of physical, emotional and professional challenges, and who are committed to the hard work required to overcome these challenges extending far beyond their hospital stay. Currently, there is no government funding for these types of programs, and Challenge Aspen is one of only a few organizations offering this type of recreational therapy. It is the goal of Challenge Aspen for C.A.M.O. to become the model program in the United States.
Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Programs
Challenge Aspen hosts daily adaptive ski and snowboard lessons, programs, and camps, making winter sports accessible to adults and children with any physical or cognitive disability, catering to novice and advanced levels. Challenge Aspen maintains its place at the cutting edge of the adaptive world through continual maintenance and improvement of an up-to-date inventory of equipment to accommodate the varied needs of our guests. Our PSIA and AASI-certified instructors are professionally trained and certified in adaptive teaching, taking great pride in the quality of our ski and snowboard programs and providing knowledgeable instruction to those with visual and hearing impairments, spinal cord injuries and cognitive disabilities. Safety is always a top priority.
Through its partnership with Aspen Skiing Company and local outfitters, Challenge Aspen has access to four skiing/boarding areas within the Roaring Fork Valley.
