So, it is the Fourth of July and Colorado is beyond dry. With danger stemming from a very light snow year and very little rain so far this summer, we have already seen the devastating effects of current conditions. Truth is, we are dry enough that most areas are instituting fire bans and – yep, that includes fireworks restrictions. So how about experiencing something different for this year’s big Independence Day celebrations. Communities all over are creating some unusually fun Fourth of July events to help locals and visitors alike enjoy the holiday. We’ve listed a few of our favorites below:
Bike & Boogie
Tikes will embellish their bikes with holiday art and show off their skills as they join the parade through town. A free outdoor concert led by Whitewater Ramble entices anyone around to literally dance in the streets. Visit AspenChamber.com for additional details.
Flight or Fight
Situate yourself near Peak 9 For an engaging air show at high altitude and be sure to bring the kids who will join the Red, White and Blue Fire Department for the annual old time water fight on Main Street. Visit GoBreck.com for more details.
Revelry and Rockets
We discovered one place that will host a fireworks show on the 4th of July. Make your way to Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park, take in the exciting rides and amusements, at dusk, score just about the only fireworks display in the state. Visit ElichGardens.com for additional details.
Dish and Drift
Try your luck in the pie and/or watermelon eating contests then watch the beautiful boat parade on Lake Dillon. Visit TownofDillon.com for details.
Fish and Flashlights
The annual fishing derby is for little ones. Pay homage to those effected by the fires in Colorado and point your lights up in the night sky together. Visit TownofFrisco.com for additional details.
Stunts and Springs
A patriotic tribute at Two Rivers Park includes the one and only MarcFourth Marching Band and when it is over, find your way to the hot springs pool for an evening dip. Visit Glenwood Springs for details. Click here for a few enticing sound clips…
Regions Largest Themed Parade
This year’s TEAM AMERICA theme honors the athletes representing the US in the summer’s upcoming Olympic Games, to be held in London. Join Vail in celebrating the regions largest parade stretching from Golden Peak to Linoshead Hall. Visit Vail4th.com for more details.
