The Vail Recreation District (VRD) presents the 2012 Vail Kids Adventure Race. The area’s premier race for ages 6-12 features biking, hiking, obstacle course elements, tubing and more. Last years kids adventure race offered teams the opportunity to explore their adventurous side. Teams used their teamwork and problem solving skills throughout their racing experience. The course also will feature a new starting/staging area at Golden Peak, adjacent to Larkspur Restaurant, also providing great eats for racers and their families throughout the day.
Exciting Changes to be announced for this year’s kids adventure race
This years race showcases several exciting changes including optional pre-competition workshops. “The skills workshops we’re offering have been an incredibly popular addition,” explains Beth Pappas, VRD race organizer.
Also new, be sure to come out and cheer on the Strider Cup competition. Your little tikes – ages 2-5 – will learn the thrill of adventure competition. This is a free program set to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 11 at Solaris in Vail Village. Competition is limited to 50 participants. Tots will ride their own Strider-type bike and each child must wear a helmet. “We hope that these children will make life-long habits to stay active and grow to be active, healthy adults,” said Warner.
Sponsors step up for healthy lifestyles
The Vail Valley Medical Center is proud to join as presenting sponsor of this years race. “Physical activity is obvoisly an important component to health and I can’t think of a more fun way to get active than at the KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race,” explains Lindsay Warner, communications manager at Vail Valley Medical Center. Additional sponsors included Camelbak, Cliff Bar, The Parent’s Handbook, KZYR 97.7, Vail Daily, Larkspur Restaurant, American National Bank and David Honda Vail Sports Medicine Physical Therapy.
Registration is $150 per teams of two categorized into three age groups split into boys, girls and coed teams. The competition is limited to 115 teams and is available by visiting www.vailkidsadventurerace.com or call the VRD Sports Department at 970-479-2880.
