Avon

Avon is home to many families in the valley and for good reason. There are many monikers attached to Avon: the heart of the valley, the commercial hub of the valley, the aquatics center of the valley and now another can be added: the redevelopment center of the valley. Avon is taking aggressive steps to position itself as the gateway to Beaver Creek and redevelopment is on the forefront of that effort.
The Riverfront Village project was recently approved on the confluence property adjacent to the Eagle River. The property once served as a mobile home park, then as a parking lot. Now it will be home to a $500 million dollar mixed-use development that includes a gondola connection to the Beaver Creek Ski area, a 5.5 acre park along the Eagle River, and a Westin Hotel that will serve as the first anchor of the Main Street project in the core area of Town. Avon’s commercial core now will become ‘beachfront’ property.
The vision for an Avon Main Street consists of an east-west road in the current 50’ wide pedestrian mall behind the Seasons Building. A vibrant area with storefronts that extends into Avon parkland, it will accommodate both vehicles and pedestrians, but be designed to allow street closure for special events and possibly a permanent closure in the future. The Master Plan for public improvements envisions a Main Street, a new Avon
Transportation Center that will begin construction in the fall, realigned Benchmark Road and a public parking structure.
Finally, Avon recently completed a white water park and river enhancements that create a recreational destination and a natural amenity that can be enjoyed throughout Spring, Summer and Fall. Improvements to recreation and ecology include hitewater features, navigation passages, riparian zone enhancements and designated access.
